The Technology Advancement Program funds demonstrations for emission-reduction technologies that have not yet been commercialized for port applications.
Technologies must target any of the Ports’ five source categories, which include ships, innovative truck infrastructure, cargo-handling equipment (including yard tractors), harbor craft and locomotives. The TAP Guidelines provide specific eligibility requirements for each source category. With the increasing development and deployment of zero-emission technologies for cargo handling equipment, including battery-electric yard tractors or rubber-tired gantry cranes, the ports developed a standardization for charging infrastructure required at all of the ports’ terminals.
